Overview
A financial services organization is seeking a highly autonomous Senior Data Engineer to architect and build a modern enterprise risk data platform.
This is not a role for someone who simply executes assigned development tasks. We`re looking for an engineer who can independently design data architecture, build scalable data pipelines, solve complex technical problems, and own solutions from concept through implementation.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an evolving environment where requirements may be ambiguous and success depends on understanding both the business problem and the technical solution.
What You`ll Do
- Design and implement a scalable Microsoft Fabric data platform supporting enterprise risk reporting and analytics.
- Architect database structures, Lakehouse environments, and data models that serve as the trusted source for risk data.
- Design and build end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory and Data Pipelines.
- Integrate data from trading systems, market data feeds, and internal business applications.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions without requiring detailed implementation guidance.
- Design automated reporting solutions that improve data quality, auditability, and operational efficiency.
- Optimize data pipelines and processing frameworks for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Partner directly with Risk, Finance, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and recommend technical solutions.
- Drive architectural decisions and continuously improve the overall data platform as business needs evolve.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor`s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- 7+ years of Data Engineering experience.
- Strong experience designing enterprise data architecture and relational data models.
- Advanced Python and SQL development skills.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions in Microsoft Fabric, including:
- Lakehouse
- Warehouse
- Data Factory
- Data Pipelines
- Experience designing cloud-based data platforms from the ground up.
- Experience building scalable ETL/ELT frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders.
What We`re Really Looking For
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Ownership of complete technical solutions rather than individual development tasks.
- The ability to design systems from scratch instead of following predefined implementation plans.
- Strong architectural thinking and the ability to make sound technical decisions with limited direction.
- A focus on understanding business objectives before writing code.
- Confidence navigating ambiguity and independently driving projects forward.
- Experience translating business problems into scalable data engineering solutions.
Preferred Experience
- Financial services, capital markets, or fintech experience.
- Experience supporting Risk or Finance organizations.
- Understanding of fixed income products, trading systems, or risk management concepts.
- Experience with AWS.
- GitLab.
- Power BI or Tableau.
Why This Role Matters
This engineer will play a key role in modernizing the firm`s enterprise risk platform. You`ll design the data architecture, build scalable ingestion and reporting pipelines, and create the foundation that supports risk analytics and decision-making across the organization.
